Recommendations

With the challenges that Amazon is facing, there are a few recommendations to help better come up with a  final solution for the brand and company as a whole.  With our chosen topic amazon has shown to be trying to spearhead their operations to reduce and lower their production times so there isn't much we can suggest on this except to continue with the programs they have in place.  Below we have come up with just a few recommendations that they can add. 

To list a couple, expanding the mini fulfillment centers to allow for more efficient returns and deliveries to help with reverse logistics. According to Geek wire, The tech giant has quietly built smaller versions of its fulfillment centers closer to customers in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Orlando and Dallas. This has helped with same-day delivery in those specific areas. With the changes being made, this shows that Amazon is getting ahead of their competitors that are also having deliveries within a specific timeframe. These changes have allowed Amazon to offer more than 3 million items for same-day delivery in the specific cities, mentioned above. That is a major expansion over Prime Now, the existing same-day service that offers roughly 20,000 items for rapid delivery, along with groceries.

In addition to expanding the mini fulfillment centers, Amazon can also create more eco-friendly renewable energy. Such as, solar panels and the implementation of wind turbines to power energy as well.  As covered above Amazon has added solar panels to roughly 50 rooftops on their mini-fulfillment centers.  We believe if they implement those guidelines on just half of their already standing fulfilment centers they could reduce the use of electricity emissions by 25% within 2 years of implementation.  They should also continue the programs to reach the 2040 goal of net zero carbon emissions. The climate pledge that was signed and discovered in 2019, where a commitment to the net zero carbon across the business by 2040. Amazon has made contributions to reach this goal over time and has gained a higher level than other leading brands. They should also focus on how to handle international trades and fulfilment centers abroad.  

Quality management is key when it comes to a brand and company. This operation will satisfy the expectations of customers. Operations management approach involves continuous improvements along the way. Layout and design strategy is the strategic decision area that managers have the objective of optimizing the movement of human resources, materials, and further information. In the Amazon warehouses, items are organized with a computerization policy. With this method, it maximizes shelf space and minimization of aisles to achieve optimal capacity without compromising the online retail business of Amazon. This helps with employee satisfaction and sustainability because the happier the employees the less likely they are to quit and you will have to hire and retain new employees.

Inventory management is also very important when working within a business. It helps focus on maintaining the optimal inventory levels, such as: ordering and holding inventory. Amazon warehouse employees are trained to maximize the speed of order fulfillment through mobile computers linked to a central computer database. Some goods that arrive at amazon’s fulfillment centers are immediately shipped to fulfill customers needs and expectations of the business. Amazon should continue with these practices because the faster you can get orders filled the less energy will be needed.
